Vacationing without your Pet

April 2015

An estimated 53% of pet owners take their pets on vacation according to TripAdvisor.

For those who choose to leave their pets at home arrangements should be made for their care.

The most economical way to care for loved pets is to have a friend or family member stay over or stop by daily.

For those who cannot make arrangements for friends or family to care for their pets, there are some alternatives.

Kennels provide outside care for pets.

Pet and house-sitters will stay at your home or stop by daily. Prices can range from $15 to $25 for day visits and as high as $60 for an overnight stay. Pet and house-sitters, who can also bring in mail and turn lights on/off, may post notices on internal condo bulletin boards.

Trusted House Sitters arranges free vacation accommodation in return for pet-sitting through their listing and e-mail service. Sitters are registered and have undergone a police check. Pet owners can speak and/or meet with the pet-sitter in advance via e-mail, telephone or Skype. The company has provided 250,000 nights of house sits. The service requires membership at prices ranging from $29 for one month to $79 for an annual membership.

When arranging for a pet-sitter, don’t forget to inform the Concierge that you will be out of town and who will be accessing your unit.
