Protecting Condominium Owners Act, 2015
The Ontario government has introduced legislation to amend the Condominium Act, 1998. This legislation is referred to as Bill 106 or the Protecting Condominium Owners Act, 2015.
This follows two years of consultations and thousands of recommendations by individuals and condo community interest groups between 2012 and 2014. Information about this process and recommendations can be found in the Toronto Condo News Condo Archives under the heading Condo Act.
The proposed act will be referred to a Standing Committee to the Legislature during which time submissions from stakeholders will be considered with the possibility of revisions.
When the Condominium Act, 1998 was introduced, it did not become law until 2001. The current legislation must go through three readings before becoming law. A similar three year process is likely for this new legislation.
Next month Toronto Condo News will report on what is contained in this legislation and how it is likely to impact on condo residents and owners.
