Evolution of Luxury Amenities

July 2019

At one time treadmills and weights were a popular amenity.  A swimming pool was the height of luxury.

Amenities that focus on exercise continue to offer long-term appeal.  Condo buildings used to partner with a full-service exercise club where residents would pay a fee for access.  Today one is more likely to have full-service fitness rooms with current equipment as amenities supported by condo fees.  Yoga rooms, saunas and steam showers are no longer uncommon.

Among the high-end amenities found in some condo buildings:

  • Cold storage for food deliveries
  • Commercial kitchen where residents can host parties
  • Climate controlled wine cellar
  • Garage that rotates and brings your car to you
  • Private movie screening room
  • In-house massage service

Today’s condo residents are more discerning.  Developers cater to these buyers by including luxury high-end amenities.  With condo amenities becoming more diverse and luxurious than hotels, some condo buildings are being described as home-tels.

Some New York City condo buildings have taken luxury amenities to a new level.  One building offers a yacht with staff that can be booked for parties and cruises.  Others include private jet access, rooftop helipad and IMAX movie room.
