Efficient Condo Cooling

June 2015

The west facing side of a condo building is typically warmest because it faces the afternoon sun.

Once temperatures reach about 15 Celsius, residents of west facing suites may desire air conditioning. Those in east facing suites are more likely to feel this is too soon for air conditioning, preferring to wait until warmer weather arrives.

Springtime is an opportunity to conserve funds by avoiding both heating and air conditioning.

Ambient heat in a condo building can be sufficient to keep the building warm. Suites exposed to the afternoon sun can and should have proper window coverings to block out the sun. This is more environmentally friendly and less costly than prematurely turning on air conditioning when it can result in unnecessarily cold temperatures for many suites.
