Research into bed bug problems finds that 70% of Ontario Public Health inspectors felt reports of bed bugs had increased in their area.
This is the finding of a Compas research report, prepared on behalf of Abell Pest Control.
Survey findings suggest that apartment buildings account for 68% of the increase. In extreme situations bed bugs can be found on walls, mattresses, in hallways and even crawling out of electrical outlets.
Many of these problems may be the result of home-made solutions that exacerbate rather than mitigate the problem.
Condo buildings do not appear to be as much of a problem. Perhaps that is because condo corporations are more likely to employ professionals to deal with bed bug and other pest problems.
Toronto Pubic Health data show that bed bug complaints have declined since 2012.
