Directors are elected to serve on condo boards for the same reason we elect government representatives. Their role is to make decisions and perform functions so every decision does not become a battle, dispute or legal situation.
If dissatisfied with how a condo board is operating, owners retain power when there is an election for directors. They can vote against those who have not lived up to their expectations and elect others in line with their preferences.
While some may prefer to abolish the condo board, there is no practical alternative to ensuring everything that needs to be done to maintain a community does get done.
