Pest control, often a condo owner or resident responsibility, can impact on an entire condo building when not properly handled.
That bed bug or cockroach problem in one suite can easily migrate to neighbouring suites and soon become a building-wide concern.
When condo residents or owners are personally responsible for dealing with pest control matters, they may not be as quick to address a problem.
Other times they may choose less effective remedies in an effort to save money. This is because the condo owner or resident is required to pay directly for their personal suite pest control services.
Delays and ineffective pest control allow pest problems more time to migrate from a suite to neighbouring suites. Eradication is more difficult and costly. Residents experience more and longer periods of inconvenience.
To avoid a building-wide problem and the cost of building-wide remediation, many condo corporations choose a proactive approach. They will typically view pest control as a condo corporation responsibility. Residents are expected to report pest control concerns for investigation. The corporation will take measures it deems appropriate to control or eliminate the problem.
