Summer is peak season for burglars. They often know when you are out of town.
Burglars notice when mail is uncollected, newspapers sit in doorways and other signs that a home is unoccupied.
- Don’t publicize your upcoming travels via Facebook, Twitter or other social media
- Ask a neighbour to collect mail or retrieve newspapers
- Avoid e-mail auto-responder vacation notices
- Always roll up vehicle windows and lock doors when leaving a vehicle
- Don’t leave valuables in a visible location in a vehicle
