Toronto’s pigeon population is growing.
Feeding pigeons attract growing numbers to an area. Bird seed can be found on the ground in parks, on boulevards and areas with seating. In some areas, efforts are made to remove bird seed by hand only to have it reappear.
Pigeons like to perch on nearby electrical lines, causing them to sag. Wires touch, short out and power goes out. Bathurst and Steeles is one area where birds sitting on wires cause of power outages.
There are no laws prohibiting feeding of birds. Some find it a relaxing and enjoyable pastime. Nevertheless, it is best if everyone stops feeding pigeons.
