Volkswagen is working on a new approach to electric vehicle charging for parking areas. Their mobile charging robot delivers a charged battery wagon (storage unit) to your parked vehicle, plugs the battery wagon to the car, charges the vehicle, then returns the battery wagon to its storage location for recharging. The robot can service other vehicles while a vehicle is being charged.
The unit can be started by an app on your mobile phone.
This approach is thought to be more economical than installing more expensive personal electric vehicle charging stations likely to be unused most of the time. Battery wagons can be charged during quiet periods when there is less demand for electricity for simultaneous charging of many vehicles.
