Window Walls in New Condo Buildings

May 2014

A floor to ceiling window in place of solid outer walls is currently in vogue among developers and condo buyers.

Condo buyers like the outside views and daylight.

Developers like their ease of installation and lower cost.

Better view and more natural light come at a cost. Reduced insulation from window walls can result in higher utility costs from increased loss of heat in winter and transfer of heat from outside in the summer.

Trouble-free window walls are expected to last about 30 years before replacement is required.
