Evicting Tenants from Condos – Limits placed on condo tenant evictions

November 2017

Condo landlords now have restrictions and new costs when evicting tenants.

Recently implemented measures intended at preventing landlords from evicting people from rental units are now in place.  When a tenant is evicted and not in breach of their tenancy, landlords must now provide compensation – one-month’s rent to the evicted tenant or a comparable unit.

New rules apply regardless of reason for the eviction including a landlord or family members using the unit.  If the landlord re-rents, demolishes or converts the unit within one year they will be considered to have acted in bad faith and could be fined up to $25,000.
