Drones Spying in Condo Windows

October 2015

Drones are remote controlled flyers which are becoming increasingly popular. With a mounted camera they can be used for taking pictures. Many businesses have found practical uses for this technology.

Drones can also be used to look into the windows of high-rise condo buildings.

In Vancouver a man spotted a drone from his 36th storey downtown condo. He heard a buzzing sound similar to that of bees then saw the camera-equipped drone hover about five feet away before moving to the next suite. This continued for about an hour. It appeared again a few hours later.

The individual captured pictures of the drone and reported it to police.

As drones become cheaper and more popular, there are more concerns about safety and privacy.

Drones have been seen flying into fireworks, near landing aircraft at the airport and over suntanning women at a beach.

In Canada, flying drones is legal if weighing less than 35 kilograms and flown under 400 feet.
