Art Walk North Returns to Mel Lastman Square

August 2014

Art Walk North is back!

After last year’s successful inaugural show, Art Walk North returns to Mel Lastman Square.

Art Walk North is a reminder of how much local creative talent we have. It is an outdoor art festival showcasing work from local artists – many of whom are full-time, award-winning, established artists with representation in art galleries and major shows.

Art Walk North hosts original one-of-a-kind art. Many exhibited pieces are smaller to accommodate condo spaces. Exhibiting artists display their own work and will share with you the stories behind their art. You can speak with the artists about their creations and techniques.

Similar successful shows are held each year in Riverdale, Cabbagetown, Queen West, Liberty Village, Kensington Market and Nathan Phillips Square.

Exhibitor creations are judged with awards in Photography, Painting, Mixed Media, and Other Media as determined by an independent panel of judges.

Art Walk North is juried and curated by The Artists’ Network, a not-for-profit arts organization. This membership-based organization is dedicated to supporting visual artists across the GTA and the province.

The Artists’ Network also hosts the hugely successful Riverdale Art Walk where 130 artists displayed their creations earlier in the year. The 16 year old Riverdale Art Walk, after which Art Walk North is designed, is one of the top Toronto art events of the year. The Artists’ Network also operates numerous pop up art shows throughout the city each year.

This year’s Art Walk North features over 55 established and emerging artists exhibiting painting, photography, mixed media, printmaking, drawing and sculpture. Food trucks and buskers will add to the experience. The show spans both levels of Mel Lastman Square. It is free and open to the public over two days – August 15, 2014 11 am to 8 pm and August 16, 2014 11 am to 6 pm.

An Art Walk North Preview will be available at the North York Civic Center, North Hall, from August 11 to 16. Weekday hours are 7:30 am to 9:30 pm. Saturday hours are 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
